Vehicle sales across Canada increased 9.2% in March from a year earlier, according to the latest data from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
In all, 159,000 motor vehicles were sold throughout the country in March.
Auto sales in Canada during the first quarter totalled 401,000 vehicles, up 15.3% from the first quarter of 2023.
Pent-up demand continues to lift sales as vehicle availability normalizes across the country, said DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.
However, while automotive sales were strong in March, they declined from the record sales seen in the previous month of February.
DesRosiers also said that last month's sales remain below pre-pandemic March 2019 levels that saw 180,000 vehicles sold throughout the country.
A slowdown in the luxury vehicle market is starting to impact the broader automotive market and could weigh on sales in Canada going forward, said DesRosiers.
